Children’s Catechism

In this new year, we’d like to encourage us parents to go through the Catechism with our children. Catechism is a summary of basic Christian doctrine, to be memorized in a Q & A format. Whilst kids may not fully understand everything they are memorizing at the moment, Catechism gives them the language and categories in which they can grow in understanding over the coming years. Perhaps you’re not familiar with the concept of Catechesis and why it’s important and beneficial for children to do it. Here’s a Youtube podcast that explains it well. Listen from 23:00 onwards for about 7 mins.

We will use the New City Catechism, which comprises 52 questions, so let’s do one a week. Here are the resources you could use:

  • Choose the children’s mode for a shorter version of the Q & A.
  • Play the song.
  • There’s also accompanying scripture, commentary, and prayer for each question.
