Elders
Watermark is led by a team of elders who give themselves to teaching God’s Word, discipling, and caring for members of the congregation while seeking to follow Christ’s leading of Watermark.
Kevin Murphy
Kevin and Claire Murphy moved from South Africa in 2018 to give leadership to Watermark Church. They have two daughters, and love Hong Kong’s beaches, islands, food and especially people!
Niels van de Kasteele
Niels is from Holland and his wife EJ is from Korea. Having been married over twenty years, they lived in England for fifteen years and have been in Hong Kong since 2016. They have three teenage daughters, and also enjoy hiking Hong Kong’s trails.
Daniel Telles
Dan is from Australia and comes from Indian heritage and his wife Soda is from Hong Kong. They have two young children which keep them busy and from having much sleep. Dan works in the FinTech world and Soda works for YoungLife ministries, and they love investing in young people.
Oscar Chow
Oscar and Celeste met at Watermark Church, and have three delightful young children, which keep them busy and young themselves. They serve in many aspects of the church life, including Family Groups and discipling men and women in the church.
Simon Wong
Simon and Sherman are authentic Hong Kongers, growing up and loving this city. They have been married for almost 30 years and have two grown up children. They are involved in many areas of ministry and love discipling all people from all walks of life.
Community Groups
“To be communities of Christian growth and outreach in a context of family love”
Gathering regularly in various locations, small groups of people connect with Christ as the common focus. We believe that church is not just an event you attend, but a community centered on the Gospel and sharing life together, in a way that is visible for those outside the church to see.
Prayer
“To pray unceasingly for the church’s mission and respond to the prayer needs of its members.”
We want to be a church that does everything by prayer, as we strive to surrender everything to God. We have a prayer team that would love to pray with you after worship service or during the week. If you have any prayer requests, please do not hesitate to email us. We also pray every Sunday before the service at 10am, and hold monthly church-wide prayer meetings.
Missional Justice
“To make mature disciples of Jesus who share His love for the poor and vulnerable.”
God calls us to seek justice as part of our mission to make disciples. This means sharing in His love for the vulnerable, which leads us to share that love by meeting their physical, emotional, and spiritual needs. At a church-wide level, God has led us to commit to these people and areas: foreign domestic helpers (email us); Nepalese community (w/ Inner City Ministries); red-light districts (w/ Sons & Daughters); teen moms (w/ YoungLives from Young Life); and vulnerable children, including adoption, foster care, and support after crisis pregnancy (email us).
Women
“To equip and disciple women in Watermark to follow Jesus and serve Him for His glory.”
We want to be a ministry that encourages women to remain in Him, realizing that without God we can do nothing. Therefore we equip women through Bible studies, a mentorship program and intergenerational fellowship.
Kids
“To raise children to be disciples of Jesus, as well as equip parents and teachers to do so.”
We exist to raise children that come under the care of our church into mature disciples of Jesus, as well as to equip their parents and those serving in our ministry to do so. For info on kids and youth at our Sunday worship services, click here.
Youth
“To help youths to grow in their love for Jesus and to equip the parents and the church to be part of that journey”
We aim to equip parents to disciple their Child, enable others to speak truth into the lives of students, and prepare youth to take the next step in their personal journeys with Christ. Friday night fellowship and Sunday teaching takes place regularly at the Watermark Community Centre. For info on kids and youth at our Sunday worship services, click here
University
“To be used by God on and around HKU campus to help students take the next step in faith for His glory.”
The HKU International Christian Fellowship (ICF) is a community of English-speaking HKU students on a journey to get to know more about the Christian faith and its claims about life. We welcome all students to join us for bible study, praise, socials (eating, biking) and group discussions.
Worship Arts
“To make mature disciples of Jesus who help the church to worship Him through liturgy, production, and music.”
Worship is our positive response to God’s revelation. Worship Arts help the church to experience this revelation and respond through the liturgies of our worship services, and the pursuit of undistracting skillfulness by our production and music teams to craft worshipful atmospheres and songs.
Ministry Support
“Our mission is to support the church’s ministries and leaders through logistics and administration, so they can effectively run the organization of the church and focus their attention on prayer and the ministry of the Word, in order to enable them to make and mentor mature disciples of Jesus to glorify God and make His name known in the city of Hong Kong.”
Every aspect of our church requires administrative support, which makes this a unique ministry in and of itself. What we do as a church could not happen without this dedicated work in doing ministry behind the scenes and taking care of our facilities, finances, and other resources.
